Qui, a partire dalle acque fredde e salate che si formano lungo la piattaforma continentale antartica si origina circa il 25% delle masse d\u2019acqua dense che affondano fino alle profondit\u00e0 oceaniche e alimentano la circolazione globale, regolando la distribuzione del calore negli oceani e il ciclo globale del carbonio.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Le campagne oceanografiche italiane studiano la formazione e la dinamica delle acque antartiche e il loro impatto climatico. Gi\u00e0 durante le traversate tra la Nuova Zelanda e l\u2019Antartide, si raccolgono dati per delineare la struttura delle zone di incontro tra acque con caratteristiche diverse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; text_font=&#8221;Inter|300|||||||&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#303030&#8243; text_font_size=&#8221;16px&#8221; text_line_height=&#8221;1.6em&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; max_width_tablet=&#8221;&#8221; max_width_phone=&#8221;&#8221; max_width_last_edited=&#8221;on|desktop&#8221; custom_margin_tablet=&#8221;&#8221; custom_margin_phone=&#8221;0px||||false|false&#8221; custom_margin_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221; text_font_tablet=&#8221;Inter|300|||||||&#8221; text_font_phone=&#8221;Inter|300|||||||&#8221; text_font_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019oceano \u00e8 considerato un pozzo per la CO\u2082, per il fatto che ne <strong>assorbe significative quantit\u00e0 dall\u2019atmosfera<\/strong>, grazie alla forte attivit\u00e0 biologica e alla capacit\u00e0 delle acque fredde di tenerla in soluzione.<\/p>\n<p>Le recenti ricerche italiane hanno evidenziato che l\u2019Oceano Meridionale pu\u00f2 diventare anche una sorgente di CO\u2082, quando le <strong>acque profonde<\/strong>, ricche di CO\u2082 accumulata nel tempo, <strong>risalgono verso la superficie<\/strong> (fenomeno di <em>upwelling<\/em>), rilasciando significative quantit\u00e0 di questo gas nell\u2019atmosfera. I 5 ormeggi attualmente attivi, gestiti dall&#8217;osservatorio marino permanente del PNRA nel mare di Ross (MORSea), sono indicati con dei rombi rossi. Tra queste, la capasanta antartica <em>Adamussium colbecki<\/em> svolge un ruolo centrale, raggiungendo elevate biomasse e densit\u00e0. L\u2019immagine mostra tre specie comuni lungo le coste di Baia Terra Nova: il <em>bivalve Adamussium colbecki<\/em> (E. A.
