Il cambiamento climatico \u00e8 una modifica significativa che avviene su scale diverse: locale, regionale, globale. \u00c8 noto che nel passato il clima \u00e8 cambiato continuamente per cause naturali e a tutte le scale temporali. Lo studio implica contributi di diverse discipline (geologia, fisica, chimica, geochimica, biologia, biogeochimica, etc.) e metodologie sempre pi\u00f9 sofisticate e in continua evoluzione.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column_inner][\/et_pb_row_inner][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; 300 milioni di anni fa) e successivamente alla grande estinzione di massa del Permiano (ca. 250 milioni di anni fa), il clima divenne pi\u00f9 mite e la vita riprese il suo sviluppo.<\/p>\n<p>Il raffreddamento che condusse la Terra alla fase glaciale che stiamo vivendo inizi\u00f2 circa 53 milioni di anni fa, mentre la formazione delle prime coperture glaciali in Antartide inizi\u00f2 circa 34 milioni di anni fa, a seguito dell&#8217;apertura del Passaggio di Drake e dell&#8217;instaurarsi della Corrente Circumantartica.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; text_font_phone=&#8221;Inter|300|||||||&#8221; text_font_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>I diversi stadi della transizione <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>da Terra senza ghiaccio a Terra con ghiaccio<\/strong><\/span> sono ben conservati nelle sequenze sedimentarie della piattaforma continentale antartica e nel ghiaccio della sua calotta e sono stati ricostruiti grazie allo studio delle <strong>carote di sedimenti e di ghiaccio continentale<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;estrazione di carote mediante perforazione (<em>drilling e coring<\/em>) richiede notevole impegno logistico, elevate competenze tecnologiche e consistenti risorse economiche. <strong>Il PNRA ha dato un contributo significativo<\/strong> alla realizzazione di numerose perforazioni e allo studio del clima del passato in Antartide.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; border_color=&#8221;#ffffff&#8221; border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Il progetto <strong>Cape Roberts<\/strong>, nell\u2019intervallo di tempo compreso tra 32 e 17 milioni di anni fa, e <strong>ANDRILL<\/strong>, negli ultimi 10-20 milioni di anni, hanno documentato ripetute fasi di avanzata e di ritiro della calotta antartica, conseguenti all\u2019alternarsi di periodi glaciali e interglaciali per un massimo di <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>38 cicli climatici<\/strong><\/span> con una frequenza di circa 41.000 anni. Non secondario \u00e8 stato lo studio delle ceneri vulcaniche delle eruzioni degli ultimi millenni<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>ITASE<\/strong><\/span> (<em>International Tran-Antarctic Scientific Expedition<\/em>) ha studiato con dettaglio la variabilit\u00e0 spaziale del <strong>clima dell\u2019ultimo millennio in Antartide<\/strong>, effettuando perforazioni relativamente poco profonde <strong>lungo traverse<\/strong> e investigando, per la prima volta, un\u2019area circa 3 volte la superficie dell\u2019Italia.
